The coastline around Cagliari boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in Sardinia, famous for the fine, white sand and crystalline sea. In fact, just a few kilometres from the centre of the city there is the extraordinary Poetto beach, over 12 km. of fine, white sand and clear, blue water. Cagliari and its surrounding areas offer visitors natural oases of
enormous interest for both the unique flora, as well as the many protected
species, some in danger of extinction, to be found there. The largest plain in Sardinia stretches out to the north of Cagliari,
the Campidano Plain. Even in ancient times this area was renowned for
its fertile land and agricultural vocation. In fact, the Romans called
it "The granary of Italy", and today it is still the most
cultivated area on the island. The whole territory offers delightful
itineraries based on the fine local wines and delicious gastronomy.
