Capoterra
Population: 21,000
Altitude: 56 m above sea level
Capoterra
is situated in the south of Sardinia, just a few km from Cagliari. It
is a picturesque town which lies between the S.Gilla Lagoon, a wet land
nature reserve, and the foothills of the nearby mountains.
Behind the town lies the Monte Arcosu mountain range, a natural
oasis run by the W.W.F. and protected by the RAMSAR Convention.
Capoterra spreads over quite a large area with a number of neighbourhoods,
which stretch from the coast as far as the hills of S.Leone, S.Barbara
and
Gutturu Mannu.

The nearby luxuriant village of Poggio dei Pini is home to Cagliari's
Astronomic Observatory, where visitors can get an insight into the fascinating
research carried out there, in particular into astrophysics and archaeo-astronomy.
The Centre is equipped with one of the most important time laboratories
in Italy, a meteorological laboratory and a library which can also be
accessed via the internet.
Capoterra enjoys an ideal geographic position,
perfectly situated so visitors are within easy reach
of Cagliari
- Pula - Nora
- Chia.
