Serdiana
Population: 2,300
Altitude: 170 m. above sea level

Serdiana lies 13 km. along the S.S. 387 road, in the heart of countryside
which is almost entirely covered by vineyards, and stretches over part
of the Parteolla hills.
The area around Serdiana is characterised by natural wonders of great
interest, including the Lagoon of "Su Stani Saliu", which
hosts pink flamingos, stilt-birds and scoopers during the winter months.
The banks of the lagoon are characteristic of wet land areas and abound
in tamarisk, r eeds
and marshland grasses.
Visitors interested in architecture should not miss the country church
of Santa Maria di Sibiola, built in the first half of the XII century.
The church is of modest size and was built in sandstone and is one of
the most beautiful Romanesque-Pisan churches in Sardinia.
The external stone staircase, which leads to the roof, is particularly
interesting. Inside the church there are two naves, while the exterior
of the building is decorated with a series of high arches.
The Gothic Parish Church of San Salvatore (XV-XVI century AD) boasts
a beautiful holy water stoup (XII-XIII century AD) and wooden panels
from the fifteenth century, from Santa Maria di Sibiola, and attributed
to the master craftsman Orzai.
In the historical town centre of Serdiana, besides the beautiful houses
characteristic of the Campidaneso region, there is the castle known
as "Castello Roberti", which was an ancient residence of the
local noble family.
The town's religious celebrations are of great interest and we particularly
recommend:
- San Salvatore - 9 May
This is a religious-gastronomic festival is dedicated to S. Salvatore
and the sampling of gastronomic specialities from the area, accompanied
by the marvellous local wine.
- Santa Maria di Sibiola - 7/8 September
This is a religious festival with costume processions, decorated ox-drawn
carts (Is traccas), dancing, folk shows and poetry recitals, and concludes
with a firework display. Visitors are also given the chance to sample
the delicious local food and wine from the Parteolla district.
