The Marmilla (shaded in green) is an area in the central southern region
of Sardinia, which forms part of the district of Cagliari (shaded in
yellow). Its name derives from the fact that this part of the island
is prevalently hilly countryside. In recent years the area has become very popular among visitors because it boasts impressive archaeological testimony, extraordinary flora and fauna, as well as fascinating traditions, customs and ancient festivals. Among the plateaux and the hills of great natural interest visitors
should not miss the "Giara
di Gesturi". It is the largest plateau in the whole territory
and stretches over 45 sq. km with an average height of approx. 500 metres.
