The
Communal Gallery of Modern art is housed in an elegant building
surrounded by the public gardens just outside Castello.
The gallery was orginally designed in 1828 in the neoclassic
style by Carlo Boyl from Putifigari and was restored at the end
of the 1920s by Ubaldo Badas.
In 1928 it was transformed into a permenant art gallery. The permenant
collection was built up during the XX century through donations
and inheritance.
Today
the museum houses works of art by Sardinian artists; A national
collection of Neo-Avant-Garde from the 60s to the 80s; a collection
of Sardinian ethnographic objects dating from the end of the 18th
century to the first half of the 20th century.
Since 1999 the Gallery has housed the prestigious 20th century
collection of Ingrao, inherited by the commune.
