Besides
a small section of contemporary artwork and sculptures, the exhibition
boasts canvases, coats of arms, sacred vestments and paintings.
On the third floor you can find works by the Portuguese artist A. Pirez
(1411-1434), C. Di Giovanni (1446), from the Catalan artist J. Figuera
(1455-1479), L. Cavaro (15OO-1518) and Maestro di Olzai (beginning XVI
century).
However, the most interesting exhibits are the retables, since they
offer a comprehensive panorama of the finest Sardinian paintings, from
the arrival of the Catalan-Valencian style in the island up until the
works of the studio belonging to the local Cavaro family.
These reflect Renaissance production but still maintain Flemish-Catalan
influences (Pietro Cavaro, 1518-1538; Michele Cavaro, 1545-155O; A.
Mainas, 1537-1571; B. Castagnola, Napolitano, 1598-1611; F. Pinna, 1591-1616).
On the middle floor paintings from XVII-XVIII century show the dominance
of artists from outside Sardinia over local artists.
On the next floor down there are various works, amongst which the precious
Flemish painting "fuga in Egitto" (last quarter of XVI century).
The XX century is represented by Sardinian artists (Dessy, Delitala,
Cabras, Ciusa Romagna), with the theme of rural life.
