The Temple of Antas - Fluminimaggiore
The
Temple of Antas is a Roman temple (III century B.C.) dedicated to Sardus
Pater, built on the ruins of a former Punic temple from 500 B.C. dedicated
to Sid Adir Baby, God of hunting and fertility, son of Tanit.
Little remains of the Punic temple, but visitors can still admire well-preserved
evidence of the Roman period, such as the podium and staircase, as well
as the pronaos colonnade, with the epistyle which bears an inscription
dedicated to Sardus Pater, dating from the time of the Emperor Caracalla
(213-217 A.D).
This small, picturesque temple nestles in an unspoilt natural environment
and is worth a visit because this image of perfect harmony between Man
and Nature never fails to stir up emotions in visitors.
