![]() Monte Sirai - Carbonia The oldest testimony to life
in the Monte Sirai district dates back to the Neolithic Age, the period
in which the Domus de Janas (Fairy Houses) were dug out of the rocks.
The exact site where the dwellings stood in the Neolithic Age is unknown. Later, however, in the Nuragic period, a village grew up around the Sirai Nuraghe. The settlement of Monte Sirai developed into a larger town with the arrival of the Phoenician, who occupied it in 750 B.C., and above all with the Carthaginians (in 520 B.C.), and evidence of this historic past can still be seen today. The
settlement is arranged in various distinct sections, each with its own
fascinating itinerary for visitors:
