The Santa Maria Cathedral - Tratalias

The Cathedral was built in 1213 under the express orders of Bishop Mariano
Sardo and became the Bishop's See of Sulci (S.Antioco).
The church was built in Romenesque-Pisan style, but the is also evidence
of Gothic influence in the height of the central nave and in the double
lancet window of the apse front. Inside the church there are two wall
epigraphs, a cantilevered staircase, the corbel for the sarcophagus
and a splendid triptych, built in 1596 by an unknown artist.
Outside visitors can admire the different colourings of the ashlars
of the north side aisle, the main facade with its magnificent rose window
and the final part of the aforementioned cantilevered staircase.
Another exquisite detail is the architrave of the north aisle with lions
in low relief.
