Buggerru
Population: 1228
Buggerru is a small mining town situated on the south west coast of
Sardinia.
It was founded in 1864, in an area rich in ore deposits, and by the
beginning of the twentieth century was at the height of its mining activity,
with a population of around 6,000 inhabitants.
Up until the 1950s mining was the principal economic resource of the
town.
Today, however, Buggerru boasts a healthy tourist sector, thanks to
its beautiful beaches, post-industrial mining archaeology and its picturesque
tourist harbour. Just a few kilometres from the town visitors can admire
the splendid beach of Cala
Domestica.
The coast road from Buggerru to Capo Pecora offers visitors a magnificent
panorama of one of the wildest and most impervious areas in Sardinia.
