The Monteponi Mine (Iglesias)

The Monteponi mine gets its name from "Monte Paone", where
a silver quarry existed in 1300. After a long series of misfortunes,
in 1850 the mine was bought by an industrial group from the Liguria
- Piedmont, who founded the Monteponi Company.
The mine was used for the extraction of blende, galena and calamine.
The company later extended its activities to the metallurgic phase,
building a lead foundry and establishing the electrolytic production
of zinc.
The Monteponi mine was closed in the 1970s.
