The Sant'Antine Nuraghe - Torralba
The Sant'Antine Nuraghe (1500 a.C.) is situated in the centre of the
basaltic basin of Campu
Giavesu,
in an area of great archaeological interest. It is one of the most impressive
and striking examples of Nuragic architecture and represents the most
advanced phase in the evolution of the construction techniques of these
structures.
It is a polylobed nuraghe, with a central keep and three towers incorporated
in the ramparts, which were constructed at a later date. Inside there
are a number of corridors and walkways along the walls, which connect
the towers and lead to the upper floors.
The keep has four niches on the ground floor with access to the upper
floors from two external staircases, and there is also a well, about
20 m deep.
Originally the keep was about 22 m high, while today it stands at 17
m. Outside the Nuraghe visitors can admire the remains of villages from
various historic periods, from Nuragic to Carthaginian and Roman.
