Golfo Aranci Population: 1,985
Altitude: 19 m. above sea level The town lies in the gulf known
as Golfo Aranci, 18km north-east of Olbia.
It is situated between the railway station and the ferry port, which runs services
to Civitavecchia. The church of Nostra Signora del Monte is of particular
interest. It is situated about 10 km from Golfo Aranci, on a hill (150 m. above
sea level) and boasts an extraordinary panorama. The building has the typical
rectangular plan of the churches in the Gallura region with a beautiful granite
cross on the impressive fronton. The Golfo di Marinella is very popular
with tourists because of its exceptional natural environment, white beaches and
splendid rocky headlands. The magnificent inlet, surrounded by the gentle peaks
of Monte Canareddu and Monte Maiori, covered in lush Mediterranean scrub, is bordered
by numerous granite rocks, which have been shaped by the water. In the
last ten years a number of tourist resorts have sprang up: Marana, on the island
of Marana, Cala Reale, equipped with a tourist harbour in the centre of the gulf,
and Petra Concata, which closes the gulf to the east.
