Tempio Pausania Population: 13,749
Altitude: 566 m. above sea level Tempio
perches on a hilly landscape, among the greenery of the vineyards and the woods
of oak and chestnut trees, and offers a splendid panorama of the impressive massif
of Monte Limbara, with its two towering,
granite peaks. The town is characterised by the rather austere simplicity
of its civil and religious architecture, and the buildings are almost exclusively
in exposed granite. Visitors should not miss Piazza Gallura, the nearby cathedral
church of S. Pietro and the Medieval 'Rosario' Oratorio which faces it.

The town's flourishing economy is based on the cork and granite industries, but
it is also known forits production of wines, especially the local 'Vermentino'.
Tempio attracts a lot of visitors because of the area's beautiful natural
surroundings, in particular the lush, greenery of the woods and the famous springs
of Fonti di Rinaggiu and Fonte Nuova. The area also boasts exceptional thermal
springs with light, pure water. Visitors can enjoy relaxing massages, hydro-massages
in baths, saunas and Turkish baths. In addition, visitors should not
miss the 'Museo Civico Bernardo Demuro'. The museum is dedicated to the famous
tenor Bernardo Demuro (1881 - 1955) and is divided into two sectors. One area
contains some fascinating momentos and antiques belonging to the singer, whilst
the other boasts an archaeological and an ethnographic section.
