Santa Teresa Gallura Population:
4,142 Altitude: 40 m. above sea level
The
town stands on a short promontory which overlooks the 'Straits of Bonifacio'.
The coastal resort of Santa Teresa Gallura is characterised by its very orderly
town centre, with its regular roads which date back to its foundation in 1808
by the Piedmontese. In the last few decades, this fishing village has
been transformed into a charming coastal town which attracts thousands of tourists
every year. The town is renowned for its extraordinary shoreline of beautiful
beaches, starting with Rena Bianca, a sheet of transparent water, surrounded by
fine, white sand, very near the town. Santa Teresa also boasts an important harbour,
which stands in a deep fjord. Besides the quay reserved for the fishing boats,
there is a series of quays for pleasure boats, as well as the berth for the ferries
which run between Sardinia and Bonifacio (Corsica).
