Sea and Sun
- Santa Teresa di Gallura
- Palau
Palau
was originally a small town which survived on fishing and agriculture.
Today, however, it is an international tourist resort, thanks to its
busy port where ferries connect it to the island
of La Maddalena and mainland Italy. The coastline, shaped by the
winds, unwinds from Porto Liscia to Capo D'Orso, including Porto Pollo,
Cala Trana, Punta Sardegna, as far as the inlet, known as 'Rada
di Mezzoschifo'. The famous rock of Capo D'Orso, about 5 km from
the town is well worth a visit. This impressive, granite boulder has
been shaped by the elements over the years and resembles a bear looking
out to sea. The elegant resort of Porto Raphael, which lies just a
short distance from Palau, is characterised by its splendid villas,
immersed in the lush Mediterranean scrub of the surrounding countryside.
- Arzachena
Arzachena has grown dramatically since 1960 and today the town is
considered the capital of Costa Smeralda.
Things to see:
- The Albucciu Nuraghe;
- The Tomb of Li Lolghi;
- The Necropolis of Li Muri, the only testimony in Sardinia of the
culture of the 'Megalithic circles of Arzachena';
- The Tomb of Lu Coddho Echju, an extraordinary testimony to the Neolithic
Age.
- Porto Cervo
Porto Cervo was built in the 1960s and was developed into a terrestrial
paradise by Prince Karim Aga Khan. It very soon became one of the
most exclusive holiday destinations for the international jet set.
It is characterised by the typical Mediterranean architecture of the
magnificent buildings and villas, whose pastel colours are in perfect
harmony with the surrounding Mediterranean scrub. The town is arranged
around the renowned "piazzetta" and the port. Porto Cervo
and Costa Smeralda are authentic jewels for tourists, offering unspoilt
beaches, transparent water and rocky headlands, all laced with the
unmistakable fragrance of the rich Mediterranean vegetation.
