Sardinia has a warm temperate marine climate. The weather is hot and dry in summer and mild and humid during the winter.

Temperature
The average temperature is 17 °C.
Sardinia enjoys a mild climate, with periods of high temperatures also during the winter. Autumn and Spring are particularly pleasant with the summer hot but not unbearable.

During the coldest months; December, January and February, the average temperature is about 7°C., with colder temperatures in the middle of the island depending on the height above sea level. During Spring, March, April and May, the average temperature is about 13-14°C., with brief moments of rain.

At the beginning of June the average temperature reaches 21,5°C. in Sassari, 24,5°C. in Nuoro, 21°C. in Olbia e 23°C. in Cagliari. In the higher areas in the north the average is about 18,9° or 19°C. During the hottest months, July and August, the temperature is on average 25°C. along the south coast, While in the centre temperatures can reach 40-42°C., however the presence of the sea and the winds bring welcome relief on the hottest days.

Rain
Sardinia does not have much rain. The rainy periods are generally at the end of autumn and the beginning of winter and at the end of winter and beginning of the spring.
Rain falls more frequently in the middle of the island and lessa long the coast and the campidano plain.

Snow falls on the zones higher than 500m above sea level, especially Gennargentu, where there is snow for 4-5 months a year, and along the range of mountains from Marghine to Monti di Alà and Limbara.

Winds
Sardinia is a windy region. The main wind during the winter is the mistral which comes from the north-west. During the summer it blows hot, drying out the land and burning the vegetation. During the winter the west coast is frequently hit by the ponente and the libeccio.

The scirocco, is a Southerly wind in the Mediterranean, which near North Africa can be very hot and dry and carrying dust. It is moister when it reaches Sardinia, having picked up water from the Mediterranean.

The Levanter, a strong, fresh, easterly wind, is more common in the summer, whereas the tramontana and the gregale, which are quite fresh winds in both summer and winter, are less common.

Temperature of the sea
The temperature of the sea between January and March does not go below 13 °C. From June to September it goes up to 21-23 °C (24 °C in July and August).
