![]() The Murals of Orgosolo The
famous Murals which decorate the houses in the centre of Orgosolo
show scenes of everyday life and therefore tell the story of the town. They form a sort of picture book, with images of real situations, suffering, oppression, the struggles of the Sardinian people and all the oppressed peoples in the world. There are more than 250 Murals which animate the walls of Orgosolo. The first was done in 1968, but from 1975 onwards, with the intervention of Francesco Del Casino this art form became more and more popular. The
Murals depict very varied themes: "Life in Barbagia", "Garibaldi", "Fascism", "The Resistance", "The Massacres in the Post-war Period in Italy", "The American Indians", "Nuclear Energy", "The French Revolution", "Che Guevara", "The Coup in Chile", "Vietnam", "Tien An Men Square" and "The Gulf War". The scenes relating to the island include "The life of the Sardinian People: the shepherd, the forest fires, the drought", "Unemployment", "Poverty", "Work in the Mines". This visual account, presented by the Murals of Orgosolo, concludes with the large mural on three levels of the "Donna di Orgosolo", the drawing of a woman, which was certainly inspired by the works of Picasso. |
