Tel. & fax 0783/791262
The Archaeological Museum was started in 1938 when Oristano town council
bought the impressive collection from Efisio Pischedda. The collection
dates from prehistoric to medieval times.
The museum is arranged on two floors: the floor below is home to temporary
exhibitions which change approximately every 6 months, while the floor
above, houses the permanent collection. In the first section on this
floor you can find prehistoric and nuragic pieces which all come from
the Sinis peninsula; in the second section there are Phoenician and
Punic urns and relics from tombs dating from 800 - 300 B.C. from the
ancient city of Tharros. The third section is home to exibits from the
early Roman Christian period and the Early Middle Ages (200 B.C/700
A.D.)
Also worth noting are the works such as the painting of San Martino
(XV century), the painting of Christ (1533) and that of the Madonna
