Abbasanta Population:
2,800
Abbasanta is an agricultural-pastoral town, situated on the Abbasanta
plateau. In the oldest part of the town the houses are built in the characteristic
dark, basaltic stone, without plaster. The territory abounds in archaeological
testimony to its ancient past, with remains from the pre-historic, Punic and Roman
eras. Just a few kilometres from the town visitors can admire the extraordinary
Nuraghe Losa (dating back to between the
first half of the II millennium and the VII - VI century B.C.). Other fascinating
places of interest include the "Aiga" Nuraghe, the dolmen of "Cannigheddu
e S'Ena", some of the 'Domus de Janas' and the sacred well of "Calagastea".
In addition, visitors should not miss: the parish church of S.Caterina (1893),
which stands in front of the "casa campra", a characteristic house in
Aragonese style, from the XVI - XVII century, a single storey building in Spanish
style with an open gallery; the church of S.Maria delle Grazie (XVII century),
and the church of S.Amada (XVI century); while at Tanca Reggia visitors can admire
the small church of S.Agostino.
