Archaeology of Oristano
- S.Salvatore Hypogeum - Cabras
The S.Salvatore Hypogeum is an underground sanctuary, probably
of Nuragic origin, which was restructured in the R oman
era and later used as a Christian place of worship.
It stands under a small church and access is from a narrow staircase
in the floor at the bottom of which there are two rectangular rooms.
At the far end of the Hypogeum there is a circular room covered with
a kind or dome, where there is a well for water. Visitors can still
admire the marvellous wall paintings and inscriptions which decorate
the chambers.
- The Forum Traiani Thermal Baths
- Fordongianus
Fordongianus is the most important Roman city in the interior of the
island. During the period of the barbarian
invasions the Romans transformed the settlement into a fortified outpost:
Forum Traiani.
The real jewel of Fordongianus are the Roman baths. Today the rectangular
pool still collects the hot spring water from the volcano, which is
slightly radioactive and maintain a temperature of about 50° C.
Around the pool there are smaller baths and chambers built in trachyte
blocks. Although the mosaic floor has been destroyed, visitors can
admire the foundations of a two-bath Frigidarium, a Tepidarium and
a Calidarium.
- The Archaeological Site of Cornus
- Cuglieri

This is an early Christian and early Medieval complex which was
used for religious and funeral rites. Among the places of worship
there is the Basilica, with a central nave and two side aisles, and
the Baptistery. Another small Baptistery stood near the main funeral
area. The tombs date back to different historic periods, from the
III to the IX century A.D.
- The Sacred Well of Santa Cristina
