Birdwatching in Sardinia - Oristano
The area boasts an impressive number of lagoons:
Sinis, Cabr as,
Mistras, Marceddì, S.Giovanni, Corru S'Ittiri, Sale Porcus, Sa
e' Roccus, Santa Giusta, S'Ena Arrubia and Pauli Maiori.
These fertile expanses stretch for about 7,800 hectares and are a haven
for bird-watching enthusiasts.
In fact, the environment offers an extraordinary patrimony of flora
and fauna, but in particular of bird-life. Visitors can admire: herons,
egrets, puffins, scoopers, terns, sea partridges, elegant stilt-birds,
which nest in the beds of rushes, and various species of ducks.

The lagoons of Mistras, Sale Porcus and Is Benas are also home to thousands
of flamingos, numerous marsh harriers and bald coots. The lush vegetation
of the lagoons also conceals such wonders as the Sultan hen and the
'gobbo rugginoso', a duck with a blue beak and a long tail.
The magnificent cliffs are the ideal habitat for peregrine falcon, large
raven, black starling, kestrel, rock pipit and the rare Corsican gull,
as well as the colourful bee-eater.
Visitors can also admire the pink flamingo as it
glides through the air and the most fortunate will
see the mating rituals of the stilt-birds.
