Cabras Population: 9,000 The
town is situated near the lagoon of Cabras,
one of the biggest in Europe and also one of the most interesting becuase of its
exceptional animal and plant life. There are two protected areas in the district
of Cabras: Turre Seu and Pauli'e Sali. The beaches are among the most
beautiful in the whole Oristano Province, particularly the beaches of S.Giovanni,
where visitors can admire the ruins of the ancient city of Tharros,
Is Arutas and Mari Ermì. The Cabras area has been inhabited by man since
the V and III millennium B.C.. Testimony to this ancient history can be seen in
the archaeological finds of the isle of Cuccuru is Arrius, the oldest in Sardinia.

of S.Giovanni, which can be found near the bathing area of S.Giovanni.
The village of S.Salvatore lies on the road
which leads to the beaches of Is Arutas and Mari Ermì and is worth a visit
to see the picturesque church of the same name. The village is the finishing post
for the Corsa degli Scalzi (barefoot race), the most important annual event in
Cabras, which is held in the first week of September. Visitors should also not
miss the Civic Archaeological Collection. | |
