San Vero Milis

Population: 2,475

The town of San Vero Milis is situated on the Milis plain, among citrus fruit plantations and vineyards. Fascinating testimony to its ancient history can be seen in the numerous Nuraghi to be found at Serra Is Aruas. The Nuraghe of S'Urachi is particularly interesting with its turreted defence wall, with no fewer than ten towers. The San Vero Milis district is very varied: from the fertile countryside, dedicated to agriculture, to the "desert" of Is Arenas, with its 50 metre high dunes, to the marshlands, in particular the lagoon of Sa 'e Proccus, to the crystalline sea of its beaches: Putzu Idu, Sa Mesa Longa, S'Arena Scoada, Mandriola, Sa Rocca Tunda, Su Pallosu, Sa Marigosa, su Crastu Biancu and Is Arenas.

Among the things to see:

  • the parish church of S. Sofia, built in1604

  • the S'Uracchi Nuraghe

  • the towers of the salt works of Scala 'e Sali, of Capo Mannu, and Sa Mora

  • the natural oasis of Sale 'e Porcu

  • the museum dedicated to the pink flamingo
