Scano Montiferro Population:
1,800 The
town stands on the northern slope of Montiferru, in a valley surrounded by lush
hillsides covered with olive groves. The territory abounds in streams and springs,
among which there is the Fonte di S.Antonio spring, one of the biggest in Sardinia.
There are also numerous settlements of great archaeological interest,
some of which date back to the pre-Nuragic period, such as the Domus de Janas
de Santa Lunghia, as well as numerous other nuraghi: Salaggioro, Nuracale, Abbaudi,
Sulù, Urassala, Sa Fiqu, Rancida and Sagolà. Art lovers
should not miss the parish church of Madonna del Rosario, the church of S.Niccolò
and, just outside the town, the church of S.Croce, where a Camaldolite monastery
once stood. | |
