Wine:
- Campidano di Terralba
This wine gets its name from the town of Terralba, which stands in
the reclaimed lands of Arborea. These lands are now very fertile and
play an important role in the area's vine cultivation industry. Campidano
di Terralba is a ruby red wine, with an intense, fruity bouquet and
a dry, savoury, full-bodied flavour. It has an alcohol content of
about 11.5° and is a fine table wine to be served at a temperature
of 18°. It requires a refining period of five months.
- Vernaccia di Oristano
This white table wine has been produced since ancient times, although
it is difficult to establish the true origins of the vine. Some people
believe that it was imported in the Roman era, while others maintain
that it arrived later in the period of the Sardinian "Giudicati".
The 'vernaccia', or white table wine, is considered the most prestigious
of the Sardinian wines and it is produced from the vines which are
cultivated in the fertile land at the mouth of the River Tirso, an
area which stretches for 35,000 hectares. This fine wine is yellow
in colour with a touch of amber or gold. It has a delicate bouquet,
with a hint of almonds, and a fine, smooth, warm taste, with a slight
aftertaste of bitter almonds. It has an alcohol content of about 15.5°
and is left to age for at least two years in durmast or chestnut barrels.
With an alcohol content of about 15.5° and an ageing period of
more than three years this wine can be classified 'Superiore', whilst
for the 'Riserva' classification it must age for four years. It is
the perfect after dinner wine.
