The Cabras Lagoon

This lagoon is one of the biggest in Europe and the rushes and reed beds host
a fascinating variety of aquatic bird-life: the bald coot, the ducker, the grebe,
as well as the cattle egret, the white egret, the bittern and the pink flamingo.
Among
the numerous species of ducks there are shovellers, gadwalls and wild ducks. The
waters of the lagoon host mullet, sea bass, gilthead bream and various species
of eels. Up
until recent times, the fishermen of the area used to fish from an ancient boat
called a "fassonis", which was made from woven marsh rushes and reeds.
