The Lagoon of Pauli Maiori - Santa Giusta


Although this lagoon is of a modest size (200 hectares), it is very important from a naturalistic point of view.
It is an expanse of fresh water, surrounded by the largest area of reed thicket in Sardinia. The reed thicket is very dense and difficult to penetrate. It is therefore practically unexplored territory and the ideal habitat for egrets, bitterns, bald coots and ducks. The lagoon is also the perfect nesting ground for numerous marsh-harriers and the Sultan hen.
