Castiadas
Population: 1300
The
district of Castiadas is made up of various agricultural zones within
the central southern area of Sarrabus.
The area was home to a penal colony from 1800 until 1950, which carried
out the land reclamation of the plain, and as a result today the area
thrives on agriculture and stock farming.
Visitors to the area can still see the imposing former prison, which
bears witness to this historic period.
The mountains behind the town are of great natural interest. The Monte
Minniminni and the state owned forest of Acqua Callenti, covered in
splendid holm oak trees, are the ideal refuge for the Sardinian deer.
Visitors can enjoy extraordinary walks in this natural paradise, where
they can admire the rich plant and wild life, as well as a breathtaking
panorama of the Muravera and Castiadas coasts to the north and the Villasimius
coast to the south.
The
splendid Castiadas coastline offers fine, white sandy beaches and a
crystal clear sea. Among the jewels to discover we recommend, in particular,
the solitary beach of Santa Giusta, the charming Cala Sant'Elmo, the
magnificent beach of Cala
Sinzias and the beautiful beach of Cala
Pira.
Continuing along the coast road to Villasimius visitors are rewarded
with an incredible marine panorama of sandy shores, rocky headlands
and a crystalline sea.
