Sardinia's Nuragic patrimony
- Villasalto
- Goni
Goni is a characteristic village with an economy almost entirely based
on pastoral activity. It stands isolated in the centre of this wild,
uninhabited mountain region and is overlooked by the striking Goni
Nuraghe.
Goni deserves special mention on any itinerary because of its extraordinary
"Pranu Mutteddu" megalithic
necropolis.
- Barumini
Barumini stands in a valley which embraces the summit of the Castle
of Las Plassas to the west and the impressive ridges of the Giara
to the east.
The town has been a popular destination for thousands of tourists
since the 1950s, following the excavation work which brought to light
the extraordinary archaeological site of Su
Nuraxi.
Nearby, in the town of Tuili, visitors can enjoy a walk in the fascinating
miniature park of "Parco Sardegna in Miniatura", a reproduction
of the whole island and its most important treasures.
- Gesturi
The town of Gesturi is particularly noted for the Giara
plateau, which overlooks it and from which it gets its name. The Giara
is an area of great natural interest for both the plant and animal
life that flourish there. Inside this protected environment nature
lovers can catch sight of the famous wild ponies, the only ones left
in Europe which live and breed in their free state. Today, there are
between 600 - 700 of these beautiful animals.
