Gonnesa

Population: 5,344
Surface area: 47.45 sq. km
Altitude: 42 m. above sea level

Gonnesa is situated on the SS 126 road, about 4 km from the Gonnesa gulf.

At the far end of its beautiful beach tourists can visit the Tonnara di Porto Paglia, a tuna fish processing factory dating back to the eighteenth century, which was recently perfectly restored to give visitors an insight into the traditions of the area.

Just a few kilometres from Gonnesa visitors can also admire the Monte Sirai fortress, the Nuragic village of Seruci and the impressive metallurgic complex of
Monteponi.

The Nuragic Village of Seruci

The village is perched on a hilltop, around a central Nuraghe.

For some years the area has been the focal point of important archaeological digs and research, which have uncovered a splendid Nuragic village made up of at least three so-called "giants'" tombs.
