The Masua Mine (Iglesias)

The first references to this ore deposit date back to the beginning
of the seventeenth century.
However, the mine experienced its most prosperous period in the second
half of the nineteenth century, when the foundry was built.
At the end of the nineteenth century the 'La Marmora' washery was built
and the Masua Mine became known as one of the avant-garde mining complexes
in Sardinia.
In 1924 a modern system for loading and storage
was built at Porto Flavia.
The mine was closed in the 1980s.
