ART, CULTURE, TRADITIONS AND CUSTOMS IN SARDINIA
Sardinia boasts a rich patrimony of extraordinary
popular traditions and unique folklore, as well as a rich calendar of events held
all over the island through out the year. These festivals attract visitors
from all over the world, but they are also an important part of community life
for the local people. The festivals represent a unique opportunity to
feel part of this fascinating island and enjoy poetry recitals, singing, dancing
and original musical instruments, such as the "launeddas", a wind instrument
similar to bagpipes. Every
town on the island celebrates its own festivals and throughout the year there
are more than one thousand in total. Among the most important: the Festival
of Sant' Efisio (a religious festival), the Sartiglia, the Cavalcata Sarda, and
the Candelieri (events celebrating skilled horsemanship), The "Redentore"
(Redeemer) and the Carnival. |
